I’ve enjoyed my third Christmas in the diocese, this time in Mingarry parish. I celebrated a beautiful first Mass of Christmas at St Agnes’, Glenuig (picture). For a townie like me, the experience offered a window into Bethlehem as we made our way to worship the Lord in a small rural building guided not by electric lights but only by the stars.

On Christmas Morning we celebrated Mass at Our Lady of the Angels, Mingarry. We drew inspiration from the parish patron the Blessed Virgin who, listening to the Angel Gabriel, welcomed God’s Will. When the Choir of Angels invited the shepherds to the stable Mary treasured God’s activity and pondered it in her heart. As one who perfectly loved and followed Christ she, as the years passed, inspired others to do the same. Just as the angels had previously been messengers of God so Mary became. Today it is our turn and it is crucial that we do so! Brothers and sisters, during the Christmas Season, let us reflect on the wondrous love of God, be transformed by it and so, like Mary, attract others to Christ. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
